Desktop Printer Manager in OSX

  • Subject: Desktop Printer Manager in OSX

Has anyone else encountered this?

I have an OS9 application running in OSX Classic mode. It generates and
calls various scripts to do various things - using classic AppleScript.

Some of those calls have used the Desktop Printer Manager. When attempting
to run any of those script I get an error message that says the Desktop
Printer Manager has unexpectedly quit. I would have expected an error in
OSX, but crashing the OSAX is a little extreme. But there's worse. On an
associate's powerbook the crashing OSAX has twice damaged the copy of
classic applescript beyond repair. He's had to reinstall his system to
repair the damage.

I've rewritten the scripts to not make calls to the Desktop Printer Manager,
so the problem no longer exists. However, if you have any scripts that use
those calls I'd be very careful before you try running them under OSX.

If this is old news, I apologise. I've only just joined the list.

Cheers,

Daniel Weinstein
