When the pointer is close to the top or bottom of the box it turns into a line with arrows and then allows ME to drag it up or down increasing or decreasing the length of the event. It doesn't resize from the sides though. As for as deleting, once I click on an event, all I have to do is hit the "Delete" key and it is gone.
Am I missing something here?

Just an FYI that iCal is now available for download and it's
scriptable!

And buggy as hell, on the evidence of half an hour's playing.

I could not resize events by dragging their edges (although 'help' claims
that this is possible), there was no obvious way to delete events, and
trying to reset the timing of an event via its info window resulted in all
sorts of unpleasant behaviour, culminating in a freeze. MacFixIt has a
growing collection of reports about installation woes.

What a shame.
