Lately, I have noticed a growing trend towards courtesy and
friendliness on this list. I find it unsettling. The purpose of a list such
as this is the proliferation of knowledge--to teach. But, how is anyone to
learn from their mistakes if they are not publicly humiliated over them? By
coddling the ignorant we do them a disservice. Throw the baby into the deep
end and see how quickly he learns to swim. I say, we should go back to the
days when those with the knowledge lorded their power over others and the
newbies ever-cowered in fear of another relentless flaming.
If this tendency towards goodwill and camaraderie continues, I might
have to start hanging out in the Microsoft forum on Slashdot.
