JavaScript as "system-level library"
JavaScript as "system-level library"

I saw this today in a Jaguar reveiw column on macslash.com:
"JavaScript, after all, is a direct descendent of NewtonScript, and
coincidentally is included as a system-level library in every shipping
copy of Jaguar. "
I know that Apple recently acquired a JavaScript implementation from a
third-party and has incorporated it as a framework in the OS.
Admittedly, I'm not sure exactly what that means in technical terms,
but I think it means it will allow developers to embed JavaScript in
applications for Mac OSX, as JavaScript is embedded in browsers, and
that supposedly Sherlock 3 takes advantage of it in some fashion (or
will at some point).
If anyone could shed some light on this and what it really means I'd be
grateful. And the obvious dumb question is, I guess, does this point in
any way toward a possible integration of JavaScript and Apple Events
and system-level scripting as an Apple-provided scripting component?
What a nice thing that would be ... (nothing against JS OSA, which I
really like).
Apologies for posting a speculative thread, but I'm still waiting for
"AppleScript to make waves...", as was loudly declared in the last WWDC
hype fest, so why not?
