The -916 error is a bug. I reported this to the AppleScript QA team and
they confirmed it as so when I met John at WWDC. It seems that this was
fixed for 10.1.5 but I haven't tested it yet. I have confirmation from
the QA team at Apple that program linking works in the following cases :

10.1.5 --> 10.1.5

10.15 --> 10.2

10.2 --> 10.1.5

10.2 --> 10.2

And they all worked for me with a Ethernet LAN network (static IP).
I have not seen this error sending fro OS 9.1 to 10.X.X
