Just to make it even more confusing, those IM entries (most of which don't

AIM field, as far as Applescript is concerned.
Another thing...since it's the AIM 'handle' field...why not call it the
'handle' instead of the 'value'? It's a terminiology disconnect. Of course,
in the UI, it's just 'home'. No 'IM' heading. Just 'home' and (AIM) in
parentheses.
No 'phone' label, no address label. Nothing. Just the information, and
home/work/etc.
However, the Note: field DOES have a label.
So the address book is just a container of a bunch of text entries with no
clear ID other than the contents.
You can use the IM field to initiate an iChat conversation, but only by a
regular click. If you ctrl/right-click, then you get a completely different
menu.
<sigh>...with such a consistent, easy to figure out, clear UI, I'm far more
impressed with the dictionary being usable at all.
