Tried out an old script, while idly wondering about something else.
It was a way to get an OSX machine's serial number nice and quick via shell
script, and ran roughly
do shell script "/usr/bin/AppleSystemProfiler | grep \"serial number\""
which could then be cut around to yield the serial itself. I was
considering it for a shareware app (registration side).
This used to run inside the shell, very *very* fast; a far better way of
getting all sorts of ASP info than the dock app itself.
However with 10.2 it now launches the ASP application itself, which is
deadly slow and booooring.
Howcome?
Charles
