I also do not dispute this. My script used the "parargraph" keyword,
which requires less than 32k of text to do it's job.

I have been using regular expression schemes since at least the release
of BBEdit version 4. I can use them as well as anyone, but let's face it,
they ARE mysterious. ;-)

No, not at all. I have simply becomed concerned by the number of
replies on this list that post "do shell script" code with no word
of explanation to the original poster of what is going on. It is
simply very un-AppleScript like, and I am still getting used to it.
You should never "notwithstand" my smileys, I always "mean" them. :)
