Without knowing the motivation for doing so, I can't imagine why one
would want to have them stored as individual files. They are easily
and rapidly searched when in mailboxes, so one wonders what possible
advantage could be gained by breaking them out as individual
messages. There's at least one disadvantage - it would consume
additional disk space.
It's been over 7 years since I did this, but I recall that I just
moved the mailboxes from my then Windoze 3.11 machine to my new Mac
and used them there. I expect that's still an option.
This plan sounds to me like a lot of grief with no payoff. Can you
tell us why anyone would want to do it?

Someone I know is in the midst of switching to OS X. He has a whole
load of archived messages in Eudora on his Windows box. Ideally, he
wants to end up with the messages as individual text files in
hierarchical folders that reflect the mailbox structure.
Unfortunately Eudora on Windows won't let him save a whole bunch of
emails as separate text files so he would have to go through each
and every one of them and save them individually.
Would it be possible to import the Eudora mailboxes as is to the mac
and then run an applescript in Eudora that steps through the
messages and saves/files them out to the correct folders? Or is
there some better way of going about this?
