I am Filemaker database administrator for a publishing and distribution
company. I have had delightful use of the 'Use Printer' scripting
addition combined with Filemaker's 'perform applescript' script step:
our situation was this - we would print a hundred orders - 5 of them
would be urgent, and we would mark the order as such. Some of our
printed material needed to be printed on headed paper, some on plain
paper.
Saving three separate settings for the three trays of our printer we
printed urgent orders on to coloured paper, letters to headed,
non-urgents, faxes etc to plain. The urgents could then be cyphoned off
nicely (being plainly visible), and everything was printed without
dialogue boxes. This saved not a little time, who can say how long it
takes to do 10,000 dialogue boxes? It also guaranteed over human error
that urgent orders would be printed in a distinctive manner so they
could be grabbed. Customers were happy, we were happy.
Therefore this little scripting addition is worth its something in gold.
But OSX does not seem to allow me to use this little osax. So I am
intending to keep my office on OS 9, just because this feature is so
important to our business. I trust some of you may be able to benefit in
your own companies from using this little osax in this way and would
gladly inform more precisely how we use it if you wish. I would be very
glad if anyone could advise on how to continue into OS X with this
functionality.
Thank you for your time,
Thomas Seidler
