Sure. Though, a bug is a bug. The AppleScript toolbox function that
coerces numbers to string returns a string that won't coerce back to a
number. My guess is that Apple will want to provide reliable basics
into AppleScript.

Emmanuel, I was not clear, I meant something different.
I think Apple in general is not really worried about numerical stuff
with AppleScript.
AppleScript have had some problems dealing with numbers and algebra
for a while, and I found out that some numerical computations using the
unix side of the OS s also a bit off (namely, awk).
May be it is my fault for not actually writing any bug report, but I
feel Apple is not really looking at the right direction.
I do not know if you are familiar with SmileLab, a wonderful
application that would be even better if Apple decided to look at AS a
little differently.
