Script Editor 2 is a cocoa application.

I've already been talking with the Script Editor 2 (currently still a beta) folks on how they've worked around this limitation in Cocoa scripting so that Mail can be among the first two release version Cocoa apps to support getting the selection via Applescript (if Cocoa doesn't support it natively soon).
