I couldn't agree more. Thanks for speaking up, Helmut. It's amazing how
a few folks on this list can so quickly reduce the value of the list.
It's not about being 'listmom', it's about attempting to act like a
grown-up.
I feel fairly certain that most would NOT be so abrasive, obnoxious and
rude in person, yet it seems to be okay over email. (ok, so there are
always a few who actually ARE that abrasive, obnoxious and rude in
person :-) ) Well, ASAIK it is NOT okay over email either.
So, maybe now that Helmut has brought it up we can all try to be a bit
more tolerant, and civil, on the list -- or take the petty pissing
contests to private email.
Just my $0.02 ...

Hi all,
don't know, whether I'm the only one to feel like this, but recently
the tone on this list has grown to be a lot more nasty than it once
was.
And I think some people who want to learn something from this list are
discouraged to ask "stupid" questions by now. It gets on my nerves
when answers are just plain condescending (especially irritating if
the answer itself contains errors).
Sentences like "you don't have any understanding", unnecessary
aggressive replies when being corrected on a false statement,
accusations for not having read messages properly (while the message
itself was unclear/cryptic enough, especially as some linguistic
subtleties escape non-native english speakers) have become far too
frequent to make reading the postings on this list as much fun and as
valuable as it once was.
It would be nice if people thought twice before posting, refrained
from using absolutes, allowed for mistakes from others, take it with
good grace when they're corrected and were patient with folks who
don't get it as quickly as some think they should.
Best regards,
Helmut
