alternate script syntax

hello all -
I'm just getting started with AS and I'm wondering if there's a way
for me to use shorter syntax that comes more naturally for me - more
used to javascript, java, actionscript etc. I noticed the
Javascript OSA stuff seems pretty old. Is this usable for scripting
the UI in OS X? are you better off just learning the AS syntax?
Does anyone know if there are any plans to introduce new syntax to AS
anytime in the near future - allowing for dot syntax and other stuff
not currently supported? I saw an older message that mentioned
something about new syntax for OOP actionscript but I haven't been
able to find out anything else...
thanks -
michael
