The MacSQL Framework does this for you. You can get free access to

I haven't received a response from these people, and although
grateful to everyone for the suggestion of MacSQL, it doesn't do what
I asked - query a MySQL database from AppleScript. It involves using
another piece of software, $249 per client which is $2,750 that I
won't be allowed to spend on "testing a solution."
Is their really no way to query an SQL database from AppleScript
which, lets face it, you can do "out of the box" in Perl, PHP and
JavaScript? I mean, I know there isn't a "SELECT" statement in
AppleScript, but I can't spend $250 connecting free stuff to free
stuff. :-)
