I don't see that your solution is compromising for the "definite benefit of
simplicity"...in which case I think you just send text (if simplicity is a
benefit that you desire).

OMM, _all_ HTML mail is stripped of its HTML formatting and graphics (thanks
to a great script by Allen Watson) and if that fails (due to Mime type) then
it gets pitched to the trash bin.

I don't have any colleagues who "cotton" to HTML mail, and I've only really
met one person who simply loves it and would never send anything else. It's
really tragic that I must trash all email from my sister, but she was warned
early on! When she comes around, then I'll start replying again. :)
