I really would like my $HOME/.login to be executed when I log in to
Aqua instead of only when executing Terminal or logging in remotely.
Environment settings made that way can apply to applications.
It's not exactly the same thing, but you can use the file
~/.MacOSX/environment.plist to set environment variables that are
applied to GUI or shell applications.

Is there any way to set default file permissions with 'umask' for
GUI/Aqua programs ?
It doesn't look like this can be done with environment .plist as you
have to actually
run umask from the shell, not just assign an envirnment var. But
setting it in the shell
login/profile files doesn't at all affect non-shell/GUI programs.
Is there somewhere that this can be set where it will be honored by GUI
programs ?
We really need to force all shared documents to be group writable.
I'ld even be happy with a global/system-wide setting if these is
somewhere in an .rc
file this can be set.
This sort of problem seems to be a bit of a flaw or oversight in
Apple's layered design of OSX!
Sorry if this is Off Topic for the list, but it's On Topic for the
thread!
