[Not sure of this is the correct forum to discuss this, but noticed numerous
posts on SE2b earlier; if someone has a link to the correct bug reporting
forum, I'll use it.]
Are many of you folks using the latest SE beta? How are you finding it in
terms of stability? I've only been using it a few days, and have about
reached my limits of frustration with feeling the need to save every open
document every time I make a single line change.
Specifically, SE will unexpectedly quit very frequently when simply creating
a new document, be it from the menu, keystroke, but especially from the
Library. It doesn't seem to matter whether I have one, ten, or zero other
documents or windows open; IOW, SE is prone to quit immediately upon launch
by simply opening a new window, whether or not the Results, Log and Library
windows are also open or not. Sometimes I can go an hour or two of
continuous work, sometimes only minutes, sometimes less than a minute.
I don't seem to have any quits I would directly attribute to pressing Run or
Compile, at least, but I did have a couple when trying to open Dictionaries,
which I place in the same category as above.
Typically, when such quits occur, I tend to suspect either corrupt prefs or
an issue with multiple monitors (I have as many as six, depending on where
I'm working), or an issue with application/haxie conflicts.
To test the prefs and conflicts issues, I created a new user, and logged in
so as to have perfectly fresh set of prefs, devoid of any possible settings
for SE 1.9 or earlier, and free from third party add-ons (FruitMenu,
WindowShadeX, Default Folder, etc.). It didn't take but two minutes to prove
instability here, too.
To test for application corruption, I uninstalled SE2b, re-downloaded it,
created another new user, and reinstalled it under the new user. Same story.
To test for machine/multiple-monitor compatibility, I installed it on a
fairly virgin installation of OS X 10.2.6 on a PowerBook using only its
integral screen, and, again, devoid of any third party system enhancements.
The instability continued, demonstrative especially, again, by generating
multiple new documents until it crashes.
