which is better stated as:

click on the desktop, select Finder->Go->Go to Folder

type in the path to the folder (directory) you want to search; e.g.,
"//usr" (without quotes) and then click the Go button

a folder (directory) window opens showing its contents

type in the filename (or a significant fragement) you're searching for into
the upper right-hand corner search window and press return: e.g., osascript
or osa

search results window opens showing all such files
