Extra Suites provides a progress dialog.
http://www.kanzu.com/main.html#extrasuites

It is only $10 and allows registered users to distribute run-only scripts. It works very well for me.

I don't think there's anything that's easy and universally installed,
like display dialog. You could certainly do it with AppleScript Studio,
but this precludes making a simple script; you can only use it to build
an application. There are some scripting additions that allow the
creation of more interesting dialogs, but you would have to make sure
they get installed. One is called Appearance available at
<http://www.24usoftware.com/>, but it isn't cheap if you have to deploy
it to multiple users. Smile is a free script editor that allows you to
create scriptable dialogs, but I think the dialogs have to run in Smile
(someone correct me if I'm wrong). Dialog Director is free and a
scripting addition, but it doesn't seem to have been updated for Mac OS
X.

Anyone know of better solutions?

David
