Find and FBC in 10.2 ?

  • Subject: Find and FBC in 10.2 ?

Hi all,

Checking my understanding of the current situation in regards to scripting file finding (including find by content) with 10.2 :

1. Prior to Jaguar this was scriptable via Sherlock but in 10.2 that is no longer available. The Finder - which provides this capability in 10.2 - does not allow scripting of the find facility (either file or content).

2. If I want to script this sort of capability, my options are:
a. Doing folder walking and filtering file properties myself
b. Shell scripting with find and locate
c. Using Studio and the Cocoa API to FBC

If this is wrong or if there are alternative approaches, I'd love to know about them. And any word if getting the capability back is in the cards - in Panther or beyond?

Thanks,
Mike Burns
