Depending upon what you are doing, you might wish to consider mixing
your Applescript with either Perl or Python. Both are reasonably easy
to pick up and can call applescripts. I'd personally not consider
doing much with extensive text processing using Applescript.
In fact I'd say that with a few exceptions, I code most of my
Applescripts as part of shell scripts.
