InDesign: Linked text frames and master pages

Hiya, list.

I'm trying to use the sample in Shirley Hopkins's book to override
master page items. It looks a bit like this:

tell application "InDesign 2.0.2"
tell document 1
tell page 1
set theMasterItems to master page items
end tell
end tell
end tell

But, I have a few linked text frames on my master pages that I
plan to fill with a story with many paragraph styles. I need to
preserve the text-frame links that are on the Master Page....but
that script breaks the links.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
