Progress Indicator?

If our script is processing a large file, and execution takes hours, what is
the best way to let the user know that processing is ongoing?

I searched and found a progress bar application, but it's an old pre-MacOS X
app, it seems.

Is there a simple 'set cursor to clock' command I can use? Etc. Thanks for any
help in this matter!
