Hello,
I have some rather extensive scripts for a lengthy process I'd rather not
run in MS Word anymore. Some parts of it I will have to keep there, because
the process begins with a Word file (usually).
As MS has not bothered to fix the broken pattern matching function in Word's
search and replace, I'll view this as one additional reason to seek out
another AppleScript-savvy word processor. For the moment, I'll assume that
parts of my process that deal with Word Tables will remain in Word. My goal
is to offload thousands of Word search/replace steps (VBA called from
Applescript) into another program.
First: do Tex-Edit or BBEdit have the ability to preserve Word invisible
elements like soft returns, section breaks, page breaks, etc? Can either of
these programs be reliably scripted to search/replace special characters,
patterns involving punctuation/numbers/letters/spaces/tabs/carriage returns
and combinations thereof?
Before I contact the makers of these programs, I'd like someone with some
experience in this area to chime in with a Non-Word recommendation - or, to
tell me that Word is still the best choice for the above needs.
And, if anyone knows whether these or another program can work with Word
Table elements, that's a bonus.
Thanks!
Bill Planey
