The Standard Additions dictionary says, about the 'adding folder
items to' handler:
adding folder items to: Called after new items have been added to a
folder, but only when the folder's window is open
But the handler runs when I save a new file into the folder, without
having the window open. It also works if I drag a file into the
folder without opening a window. So was this requirement about
having the window open true for an earlier version?
Wow, I'm amazed no one caught that before this! That was true back
in Mac OS 8/9, but isn't in Mac OS X.
LOL we've taken this morning a decision based on the fact that folder
actions work only on open windows.
Are you saying that the folder actions well keep working on save and
on drag to closed folder in the future?
Yes. The old limitation was an artifact of how it was implemented. We
never wanted it to work that way, but didn't have a choice at the time.
When we re-wrote them for Mac OS X, we got rid of that limitation.
