Scripting toggle of crossfade in iTunes?

I've tried using UI Scripting but am not having any luck using "click at {x,y}" to select the Effects panel of the iTunes preferences (the icons across the top of the prefs don't seem to be an actual UI element?) Has anyone had any luck with this? I'm trying to toggle the crossfade setting (iTunes 4.1 and Mac OS X 10.3.1).
