At 07:20p -0500 12/15/2003, Graff didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:
I'm sorry, I wish you the best in your efforts but I would never
assist anyone in sending HTML via e-mail. HTML belongs on the web,
e-mail is plain text. If you want someone to view a HTML page you
have made you should either send them a PDF of it, an archived
version of it, or a URL to visit it.
URL! URL! ("Why yes I am," whispered supermodel Macpherson.)
Many people immediately delete any message they receive in HTML
format, and I am one of them.
As am I. Well actually, I wrote a server-side spam filter in Perl and
set up its rules to automatically destroy any text/html message and
to trash any multipart message (except for mail from a few people
I've chosen to put in one of my whitelists).
Of course there are some folks who actually like HTML mail. Well
there are also people who like being "shat" on. Different strokes, I
guess.
If you want your messages to get to all of the people you send them
to then your best bet is plain text.
Yup.
I saw a Web page which said that marketers prefer HTML two to one,
while recipients prefer plain text two to one. I think that speaks
for itself.
As I said, it's nothing personal and I wish you the best in your coding.
I know JD has a script for Eudora to create any type of outgoing message.
It would be interesting to know if Mail is even capable of supporting
arbitrary message types (like, say, MIME type turducken/peptoalkatum).
