At 08:56p +0100 10/23/1948, VRic didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

14/12/03 Jim Witte :

>(You can tell I come from the Hypertalk tradition -- I'm annoyed that
>AS isn't *exactly* like HC - Apple *does* have the code after all, and
>I'd bet there are a heck of a lot of HC scripters still out there..)

I miss the incredibly cool "it" and "me" contextual variables from HC
that are almost useless in AS ("it" basically doesn't work

Well, "it" is not meant to work in place of "result". It <g> is generally used in whose clauses ("blah blah where it <comparison test>").

and "me" depends so much on the runtime environment that it usually can't be
trusted -- the same script using "me" may return itself, or the current
application, or a script launcher utility, or maybe even a window,
AppleScript, or whatever, depending on how the script ran).

Personally, I only use it for applets/droplets. It is fully reliable there.

And I read recently that OSA itself dates back to around 1969.

Really? Cool! Right along with Unix and landing on the Moon. :-)
