Encrypting passwords with AS

G'day all,

I'm looking for a way to encrypt a password for a .htpasswd file using
Applescript.

In PHP or Perl it looks like this: $password=crypt($password); but I'm
wondering if there is any way of encrypting via AS or the terminal. Any
suggestions as to how I might accomplish this?
