After further testing it seems fairly clear that in the most recent versions of FMP (going back to v.4, with one known exception), FileMaker is unable to insert a QuickTime Movie via AppleScript. To my non-expert eye, this seems to be a bug in FMP.

Thanks very much to all those who helped me, in particular those of you who did more extensive testing. I wish I could say there is an AppleScript solution to this, but I'm afraid I don't think there is. Thanks anyway.

Max

As some of you know, I've been trying to insert a QuickTime movie via AppleScript to a FM 5.5 database without success. After receiving help from a couple of helpful scripters on the list, one of whom even tested my database, I am still stuck with the problem.

FileMaker complains that the file is the wrong type anytime I try to insert it with AppleScript; however, when I try manually, FileMaker takes it beautifully. When Ehsan, from the list, tried on his system (configured differently than mine), it worked for him using my database, my script, and my movie!

So the next step is to find someone who would willing to run this same scenario on their machine. The movie is a very small sample (28kb uncompressed), the database is only a collection of a few fields, and the script is about four lines long.

I would appreciate if someone would be kind enough to run this test on their machine and tell me what happens to them. I'm running OS X (latest version, Jaguar), and FileMaker Pro 5.5v2, and would like for the tester to come as close as possible to this configuration. If you are willing to try it, please let me know off list, and I'll send you the files directly. I will be very grateful!!

Max
