What I'm wondering is if there is a way to use AppleScript to compress a PDF

Ideas?
I'm working on a script that uses the command line utility that comes
with StuffIt Deluxe 7. The script, accessed through the print dialog,
stuffs a PDF file (.sitx) and then attaches it to a Eudora message.
It seems to work nicely and initial tests indicate that the
compression reduces the file size by approximately 5-10% on PDF files
in the range of 50-200 KB.
StuffIt Deluxe is scriptable but I prefer to avoid launching it when
the command line version does just as well and behaves more like a
background app.
If StuffIt Deluxe isn't an option, there's a collection of scripts at
ScriptBuilders that might be of interest to you. It's named "Mac OS X
Encoding Plethora" and it includes several useful scripts. Developed
by Roger Jolly.
