There are some holes in our applescript functionality, but it's not a totally bizarre or useless dictionary by any stretch of the imagination. Anyone that takes a look at the dictionaries and compares them to other email clients.....

OK Cricket, where can we find a good collection of really useful script examples to demonstrate how good it is? You are the only person I have ever heard say anthing positive about Mail's scriptability. I've looked from time to time on the web for some enthusiast's site that will really help to master this new language, but that enthusiast doesn't seem to be about yet.

On your hard drive:

file://localhost/Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/

Or versiontracker:

http://versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=16217&db=mac

For those that really want to know, getting the selection is a hole in Cocoa scripting that should hopefully be filled in the next release.

In the next release of what? Will it then be possible to get the selected text in TextEdit too?

Mac OS X. Yes, in any Cocoa application.
