I'm primarily a lurker on this list but you have eloquently summed up my frustration with AppleScript

It certainly is disheartening to see Apple ship software that is either not scriptable at all, or only half baked in the scripting department. It's particularly bad if they intend that we dump other third party applications in favour of their offerings. It's a serious issue that doesn't seem to have any happy resolution in sight. If we consider Sal, Chris E., Chris N. and the others on the AppleScript team to be the AppleScript Jedi, then the dark lord of the Sith is the VP of the applications group, and until someone bricks that osmiumite things aren't likely to change.
