I am working on a pretty robust script under OS9 that I suspect may be
eating up a lot of memory and causing QuarkXPress (4.11) to crash from time
to time. Here's what the script does:
The user drops an image on a droplet, a FileMaker Pro (5.5) database creates
a new image name using its own pre-set calculations, the file is renamed
then a Photoshop (6.0) script (action) saves a hi-res version and lo-res
version to appropriate folders. The script then has QuarkXPress create a new
page using the lo-res version of the image. The crashes usually occur when
QXP is saving the new page. Photoshop has crashed once. I have tested the
script more than 100 times and the QXP crashes occur about 1 out of 10
times.
My memory setup is: 256 MB total RAM, Photoshop:46 MB, FileMaker Pro:27 MB,
QuarkXPress:36 MB, the OS ranges between 72-97 MB.
My questions are, (1) Does anyone have any experience in dealing with memory
that could help, (2) Would it be more stable if the QXP script was a
separate script that launched after the other steps are completed. (3) Would
it be more stable if each applications functions were separate scripts, and
(4) Is it likely that installing more RAM will correct the problem.
Thanks,
Scott Lewis
