Sorry, I thought I could get away with not mentioning that, just this once...

Those double angle brackets actually stand for the guillemet character, which can't be transmitted to the list via Apple's current server software. On my keyboard, you can get them by pressing option-\ and shift-option-\. You can also see them by typing "AppleScript" in a fresh editor window, hitting run, and checking the result window.
