Image Info can return all the info you seek (and more)
without opening the file.

It's a scriptable application with an optional interface,
you can find out more at http://www.kanzu.com.

I also have a vanilla script library version available
(which has almost all the features of the application)
by emailing me.

Info returned by Image Info:
name, width, height, resolution, color mode, type, creator, created,
modified, where, file size, data size, image size, size ratio, format,
compression, fonts, channels, image layers, adjustment layers, type layers,
colors, paths, clipping path, comment, quality, encoding, transfer function,
halftone screen, eps preview, caption, artist, date time, software, title,
URL, copyright, copyrighted, pages, byte order, EXIF data, IPTC data,
embedded color profile info

Image Info also supports these images:
Alias PIX, BMP, binary EPS, vector EPS, DCS 1 EPS, DCS 2 EPS, GIF, JPEG,
JPEG2000, Macpaint, Photoshop, Photoshop 2, Photoshop Raw, PostScript, PCX,
PICT, PNG, Scitex CT, SGI, Targa, TIFF
