You don't mention the new GUI scripting - presently a beta in Developer
Tools Dec 2002, but soon to be included in an OS update - which will be the
biggest thing ever. Perhaps you don't know about it? Only one person has
mentioned it in passing. And within a week or two , Bill Cheeseman and
PreFab Software are releasing "UI Browser" to work with it.
These tools and AS Studio are where all the action is going to be. Dialog
Director, FaceSpan and other OS 9-only apps are history. By all means
include one chapter "Of Historical Interest" if you really want to, but
nobody will buy the book if half of it is devoted to dead technologies.
Smile is a major player, but users also have to have Smile for the dialogs
and widgets to work on their machines, so it will never be as prevalent as
techniques that depend only on built-in access. AS Studio and GUI scripting
(Apple's) is what you should concentrate on.
