Ethan Wilde's AppleScript for Applications Visual QuickStart Guide is a
decent starting point, although it's becoming a little dated. More of a
recipe book than a comprehensive reference. (Unfortunately most of the other
books are much more dated.) Go to O'Reilly's AppleScript in a Nutshell, or
just Apple's (downloadable PDF) AppleScript Language Guide from there.
