One of the aims of the new script editor is to keep it simple and not get too complicated in it's usage.

A most noble goal, imho. Simplicity (i.e. uncluttered interface, ease-of-use) ought to be seen as an important feature too [1]. Doesn't mean you can't have features, of course, just that you gotta choose 'em carefully [2].

I _really_ like the new design.

I think the most important thing to fix is the "Open Dictionary" mechanism. My suggestion for a power item that will be much utilized and appreciated is to implement a "shell" feature that places the result of its commands at the current insertion point in the script (unless there is redirection in the command).

Implementation scenarios
============== =========

Arrange a menu command (with a keybinding) such that when invoked:

#1. A sheet window drops down and you are presented with a popup of the stock OS X shells and a text area to enter the command and arguments.

or

#2. Implement the same functionality in the main window by putting an extra tab in there called "Shell". That would mean that the area currently used for displaying the result or the event log would be turned into a popup + text entry area if the "Shell" tab was selected by the user.

In both of the above, use the various setup files like ~.tclshrc and ~.bashrc and display the prompt appropriate to the currently used shell.

I'd much prefer #2.

Best wishes,

Philip Aker
