Quark art folder limit (OT?)

I recall in the past that if two many pieces of art were in a folder
that when you went to "Get Picture" in Quark the files would not all be
listed.
Two questions:
1) Is this a finder or Quark limitation? Is it version specific (System
OS or Quark)?
2) Does anyone know what the "magic" number is?
