Truncating phantom characters

There is a problem with Keychain Scripting, the password is a 64 character
string, most of which are invisible. In other words, when you use the
password to log on to a server the invisible characters tells the OS to
force an ugly dialog to appear.
How do I truncate the string to only visible characters before sending it to
a logon?
