Can Applescript be used reset errant packages?

Hello,

I'm working in an environment using both OS 9.2.2 and OS X. Sometimes
folders on our server turn into packages for reasons still unknown. Is there
any way to reset these using AppleScript? I know about 'Package First Aid'
for OS 9.x, but would like be able to fix this problem when they occur
directly from an OSX machine. Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,
Greg
