Can't say I blame you, Gary. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the digital
equivalent of watching paint dry. ;-)

Seems an interminable delay to me - but then I suppose it depends how many
apps the script is trying to list. Have you any idea roughly how many
application files we might be considering here? (I tend to have machines
dedicated to certain tasks, so the list of apps on any particular machine
never gets too long.)
To give you some point of comparison, an antiquated 5500 here - running OS
9.1 (AS 1.8.3) - took somewhere between 8 to 10 seconds to list just over
100 apps.
