Thanks, Chris. I zapped the "system" Script Menu items on my machine
several months ago when I uncluttered the menu for my own use. If they
were the only user access to folder actions, that would explain why I
couldn't find an on-off setting in the preferences and why there's no
contextual menu access. I would expect my own scripts to work, but maybe
you're saying that the whole folder action system depends on the original
scripts.
I never quit System Events while I'm logged into X. I regard it as the
dark side of the Finder - the split-off alter ego that's taken over some
of the latter's functions. Only together do they make an adequate
personality. ;-)
