I was just today playing with HyperFTP (Jon Pugh...are you remembering that

scripts?

Yes, I remember that one, although I never really used it. Anarchy was my tool, and still is, I guess, although it's called Interarchy now.

Does anyone out there use HC for a "front end" for their scripts? Or have
examples of using HC as the UI?

I still use HyperCard. It's running right now in Classic, albeit with an Aqua Kaleidoscope theme so it looks less garish. However, it is greatly reduced in functionality these days. I can't get the drawing tools to work, and I've got a crashing xcmd that is annoying me, but I can still access my data, for what that's worth.

I have yet to find a replacement that is anywhere near as cool as HyperCard.

Even if it is no longer developed, I still don't quite understand the lowly
status that even Mac users seem to associate with HC.

Black and white, as well as non-standard UI widgets. These gave HyperCard stacks their unmistakable look. Then I think the generally crappy quality of most free stacks gave people a negative view of the whole thing.

I don't understand it either. I still think HyperCard is one of the coolest pieces of software ever created, but the real thing that made it worthwhile was that it was free and shipped with every machine.

Those days are long gone though.

It's a shame too, everything up to and including AI applications were developed by countless people with good ideas but little time or inclination for programming. Ever heard of HyperX? Way ahead of it's time.

Although I understand Apple hanging onto the rights for HC, I don't understand why they haven't ever updated it. I guess they are waiting for someone with the passion and ability to tackle the problem? It was such a stroke of genius, it will take developers of substantial caliber to do it justice in the new environment I would think.
