Well, in any case you need to do the equivalent of rebuilding the desktop to get rid of the outdated cache. For the moment I forget how to do this. It might not be a bad idea to repair permissions on the volume from Disk Utility on the CD, but that's not the solution to this problem I don't think.

Someone else will have a ready answer.
