Well, have you followed the value of the variable while stepping trough
the script? If the variable changes or have "gremlins" added at some
point, you have a lead. And if it's actually not changing at all, then
it's not the variable and you can look elsewhere.

To evaluate the string I'd also move it to a dialog or somewhere where I
could see it in its entirity as well as copy and paste it for execution
in the CLI. If it executes correctly, then you must be building it right.
If not.....
