Thanks to everyone who is helping with this problem.

First I think the list route looks promising. I simplified my initial number example but ultimately what I need is a "list" of datasources (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/AppleScript/Reference/StudioReference/sr6_data_suite/_data_source.html). For me this would act as 3 dimensional list/array.
