Check out Cringley's comments. He's been sensible for years now.

His sources tell him that SCO was snitching code from BSD for years, so perhaps SCO and MS aren't sitting as pretty as they thought. Apparently *everyone* stole code from *anyone* in those days (and having been programming then, I'd say they were probably right). So it's going to be nearly impossible to determine who owns what, and being free, everyone already has copies, so there's no hiding it. Linux will be free forever.
The Unix trademark has been ignored by its many owners. It has suffered innumerable programmers working on it. And now they're surprised that the code is a mess *legally* too?
Color me amused in a sad kind of way. Burnt Umber perhaps?
